Aquatic therapy is not only fun, but it offers a range of benefits for individuals seeking physical therapy, rehabilitation, or just a great low impact workout. These benefits include but are not limited to; reduced impact on joints allowing individuals to perform exercises with less strain and pain, natural resistance which helps to strengthen muscles and improve overall cardiovascular fitness, reduce swelling and inflammation, improved range of motion and flexibility. All of these benefits come from just being in the water. The buoyancy and hydrostatic pressure that you experience when in the water is what causes all of these benefits. Using aquatic therapy as part of an overall treatment plan can then help to improve balance, coordination, and cardiovascular fitness. For clients with orthopedic or neurological diagnosis aquatic therapy may allow for skill practice that may be difficult on land.
Aquatic therapy can help reduce stress, anxiety, and depression, promoting overall mental well-being. It's important to note that the benefits of aquatic therapy may vary depending on individual needs and conditions.
It is typically used to treat children with a musculoskeletal and neuromuscular conditions, but it benefits anyone with limited strength, limited range of motion or limited body control. The buoyancy of water reduces the weight-bearing load on joints, allowing for gentle exercise and improved mobility. We will implement water based exercises to improve cardiovascular fitness all while providing safer movements in the water.
